Project Description:
The Fountain Inn, a.k.a. “Suter’s Tavern” bore witness to the defining early days of American history following its founding in 1783 in the heart of Georgetown. Washington slept there on March 28, 1791. Jefferson lauded its hospitality and fortified wine. The tavern even served as a debate stage for Jefferson and Adams during the pivotal election of 1800. Though its original location is lost to the annals of time, the spirit of the historic tavern once again lives. //3877 teamed with bourbon collector Viyas Sundaram and industry veteran Morgan Kirchner to rekindle and restore the celebrated pub’s legacy. Spearheading architecture and interior design for the new location, //3877 developed a moody and intimate space befitting of the new establishment’s world-class spirits selection.
Reminiscent of speakeasies and taverns of old, The Fountain Inn exudes a nostalgic atmosphere through the familiar rhythm and symmetry of Georgian interior architecture. Rich dark woods and heavy leather textures outfit the first floor dining room coupled with dark blues and greens and plush seating, all with an intimate bar forming the backdrop. Custom display millwork and shelving with warm lighting accents flank the first floor, illuminating the spirits collection offered by The Fountain Inn. The second floor of The Fountain Inn houses a private dining room where you’ll be greeted by an impressive display of rare spirits in custom lockers and custom millwork, all of which complements the warm and intimate character of the first floor.
//3877 undertook a robust architectural renovation to address water damage and structural issues within the existing building, ensuring stability for long term operation of the space. The reimagined Fountain Inn revitalizes a quintessential piece of American history for residents and visitors to enjoy for decades to come.
