BOOMBOX - Washington, DC
About this project:
Location: 1221 Van Street SE
Setting: Within feet of the D.C.’s stadium, Boombox Boxing Club is located in the midst of a bustling neighborhood.
Project Description:
New to the ring, and Washington D.C., Boombox Boxing Club delivers a dynamic fight club meets nightclub design imagined and implemented by the area’s in-demand architecture and interiors firm, //3877. Enlisted to craft a studio that is both approachable, motivational, and an active asset in forging a fitness-focused community, //3877 considered every detail from top to bottom. Starting at the studio’s exterior, visitors are greeted by an industrial-style garage door that was designed specifically to allow for al fresco workouts in the summer months. Similarly providing a window into the world of working out, the garage door’s windows offer a glimpse of the studio’s central fighting ring, which is set to be used for sparring and public coaching. Greeting fitness enthusiasts upon arrival is a generous welcome area, outfitted with a check-in booth and an expansive wall of storage lockers, where visitors are immediately enmeshed into the community-centric ambiance, completed by spirited signage. A speakeasy vibe is also apparent, as class participants join their classmates in walking through what feels like a secret hallway leading to the back studio. The back studio is home to group glasses and features punching bags strategically hung from steel frames. Color changing lights offer a club-like feel that are paired with the studio’s excellent music selection paying tribute to traditional hip hop beats, chosen to inspire and motivate.
