Project Description:

Holiday Inn Ocean City breathes new life into the historic beach town of Ocean City, Maryland, with a fresh and inviting atmosphere ready to welcome guests any time of year. Ashley Harrison of Harrison Group enlisted //3877 as the interior designer for the project, completely transforming the beachfront property. One of many renowned hotels by Harrison Group lining the oceanfront, Holiday Inn Ocean City offers an array of amenities, including indoor and outdoor pools, an arcade, a fitness center, meeting spaces, and a hammock garden for guests to enjoy.

Integrating the iconic Holiday Inn brand elements throughout the property, the design features contemporary details and pops of color, creating a modern yet familiar ambiance throughout. Drawing inspiration from the hotel’s existing hot pink exterior and the nostalgia of a classic beach vacation, Holiday Inn Ocean City also pays homage to the historic boardwalk, built in 1902, housing one of the world’s longest-running carousels.

The design team prioritized bright and clean finishes to accentuate the bolder design choices, including a palette of white metal, quartz, and white oak that creates a contemporary feel, while colorful terrazzo and curved patterns infuse a mid-century touch. The Holiday Inn brand emphasizes a place for family, allowing guests to feel at home away from home. These brand elements strategically employ the use of color and texture to evoke a sense of place while the hotel’s innovative use of materiality, form, and pattern sets it apart from other accommodations in Ocean City. Trading neutral, nautical design that’s typically found in the area, Holiday Inn Ocean City embraces a more playful design through modern-retro embellishments.

Upon entering the building, guests are greeted by a row of reception pods along the back wall of the multi-functional lobby and sitting area. These modern reception desks sit against a background of beachy wooden slats, elegantly displaying the Holiday Inn logo. A retro light fixture hangs above the central lounging area, accompanied by various seating configurations throughout the lobby. Adjacent to the lobby, guests can indulge in the market’s food offerings or experience the hotel’s in-house restaurant, Touch of Italy.

The property’s spacious guest rooms, which are being renovated in phases, cater to families of all sizes. Thoughtfully designed with kitchenettes in every room, the hotel is a perfect place for families to have a peaceful retreat from the bustling boardwalk while retaining access to the quaint charm of the town. The design team’s focus on expanding space and amenities in each room, along with the use of clean finishes, delivers a refreshing look that compliments the hotel’s family-friendly essence.

With its playful yet nostalgic atmosphere and convenient access to the historic beach town, Holiday Inn Ocean City establishes itself as a comforting respite. //3877’s latest renovation project brilliantly plays with color and form, imbuing the hotel with a strong sense of place.
